Youth Connection (March 2022)
We are so excited to announce that we are opening back up for more activities and we can't wait to spend time with all of our youth! We have missed all of the children terribly, but we understand the urgency to keep all of our members safe and we are so grateful that God has kept us all through this pandemic!
To kick it all off, we are having our Youth Connection this Sunday at 10am. The Rev. Julian A. Thompson will be our guest speaker. The youth will be in charge of morning worship and the Shining Stars are asked to come back and sing! We are asking all parents to please bring out our youth to resume serving the Lord and learning about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please spread the word and share with family, friends, and strangers!
We need four children to participate on the program and we would love to see some new faces! Please contact Sis. Annette Hardy-Smith if you would like for your child to participate on the program.
Please send all of your children's report cards, awards, or any special recognition to Mrs. Kesha Logan or Mrs. Jackie Bridges for the announcements Sunday. You can also upload them online here.
The Shining Stars will practice this Saturday at 11:00 AM at the church under the direction of Rev. Verlinda Mintz, Min. Stephanie Tate, Mrs. Vera Leach, and Ms. Mary Jane Houey. We would love to see a packed choir stand!
Junior missionary will be resuming soon too with ongoing activities for the children. We will start with continuing our usual tradition of making Easter Baskets for the sick and shut-in in April. More information coming soon.
Also the youth department has been blessed to be able to take all of our youth on a day trip very soon! We are planning something for late May or early summer.

Youth Charlotte Hornets/OKC Thunder game
Greetings!
We're told the game Saturday is sold out. The Hornets group department has asked us to be at the stadium a little earlier at 2:30 instead of the planned 3:00 pm. Since Shining Stars have cancelled, we would like everyone to meet at the church at 12 Noon so we can leave no later than 12:15 pm. We will stop at Market Street in Gastonia for lunch on the way to the game to fill up.
Anyone planning to meet us at the Spectrum Center, please meet us outside the 5th Street Team Store Entrance before 2:30 pm. They will open the doors at 2:30pm. Please give me a call if you are planning to meet us there so I can bring you your tickets on Friday. If you do not enter with the group at 2:30, we cannot guarantee you early entrance into arena, the t-shirt and the Behind the Scenes fan experience.
Thank you all for your cooperation and for going with us on this trip!
Lord willing, we'll see you Saturday!

Junior Missionary December Update
Thank you again to everyone who donated for the Toy Drive! I hear the children really look forward to the Christmas party and the toys. May God give you a 100 fold return on your seeds sown!
Just a reminder that on this Saturday, Dec 9th, we will have an arts and crafts day for the youth after Shining Stars rehearsal. (The Shining Stars will practice at 11am and we will start immediately afterward around 12:30 with lunch and then break out into groups.) We have lots of talented artists coming to help the youth make and take real paintings, ornaments, jewelry and other crafts they can wrap and give as Christmas gifts (or keep. :-)) We will also decorate small Christmas trees to give to the sick and shut-ins. Parents may drop your children off in the morning and return around 3:30pm to go enjoy some shopping or relaxation. Looking forward to a great time!
The deadline for the January 13th basketball game tickets for the Hornets vs. Thunder is this Sunday, December 10th. Please see an advisor this weekend.
Also, here is the info for the Washington, DC Trip! In addition to the Museum of the Bible tickets, God has provided tickets to the Museum of African American History and Culture. Please let us know ASAP if you are planning to go on this trip. There is one bus from Concord, and another church has a bus we may be able to get seats on if available (rates may be more). Seats historically fill fast for these trips. Please don't wait to let us know if you want to go. If seats are still available, we will open it up and start announcing in church on Sunday, December 17th.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you all for all you do!
Junior Missionary Update November 2017
Greetings! We are not having a Junior Missionary Meeting today. Our next meeting/event will be the arts and craft day on Saturday, December 9th - more information to follow. We will work around the Shining Stars choir rehearsal when they schedule it.
Just as a reminder, you can start bringing in the $5 tea sets and $5 cars/trucks - there are already collection bins in the front lobby of the church. Thank you to all who have already donated! Let's do it big and make the Head Start children's day for Christmas!
Also, we were made aware this week that the TMBA Junior Missionary is doing a can food drive for Peach Tree Ministries for the holidays. We have been asked to collect can foods only (no perishables) and for the advisors to deliver to Peachtree Ministries on Friday, December 1st. If you are cleaning out your cabinets and want to contribute to this cause as well, feel free to bring them and we will happily deliver.
If you have indicated you are going to basketball game, just a reminder that I need all monies in by December 10th to pay for the tickets. We have seats in sections 207 & 210 - all tickets in rows N & O have been taken - there are tickets left in rows T & U. Everyone will get the free t-shirt and early admission to watch the shoot around... We have 64 people going so far.
I will try to have a flier with the Washington DC trip information out today or tomorrow. If you look on youtube, there is a lot of great press about the Museum of the Bible - It opens today! :-) We will be staying at the Doubletree Hotel in Crystal City, VA which is just two blocks from Fashion Centre Mall. We are staying just across the river from DC and very close to the Pentagon. God is all over this and is working it out for a very nice trip!
See you all later at Shining Stars choir rehearsal at 11!
God bless!
Junior Missionary February Updates
Greetings everyone!
Just a quick reminder that the junior missionary will meet this Saturday, Feb 18th at 10am before Shining Star rehearsal at 11am.
Also, the TMBA County-wide Revival is coming up in March.
On Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 10:30 a. m. at the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association Building, Angela Dawkins is asking to meet with the Junior Missionary advisors, Youth County Officers and Junior Missionary members for thirty minutes before our scheduled rehearsal at 11am in order to discuss some important business.
Since the Shining Stars are not practicing on February 25th, all youth are encouraged to attend this meeting and practice. (If any parents are participating in the Former Shining Stars rehearsal at noon, I can bring your children from the TMBA building to the church after practice. Just let me know.)
Our youth are excused from the Saturday, March 4th rehearsal due to the Shining Stars anniversary rehearsal.
The final practice for the TMBA Youth choir is Saturday, March 11th @ Limestone Baptist Church - Time TBA.
The Youth Explosion will be Sunday, March 12, 2017 - Time TBA.
Lastly, the TMBA in partnership with Limestone College Football team will be having another field day event. The date is Saturday, March 18th from 5:oopm-6:45pm at Gaffney High School Stadium. Like last year, preregistration is required by the Feb 25th meeting. We will have a sign up list at the meeting this Saturday and at church on Sunday to sign up. This was a lot of fun last year, and we hope everyone will be able to take advantage of this event.

September News Update
Greetings!
Please forgive me as I'm still getting the hang of all the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association stuff. :-) TMBA week is at the end of the month and we have been asked to do our best to participate in the Junior Missionary activities. We had some other things planned this month, but we will have to shuffle those to October and November.
The Fundamentals Basketball Camp is still going on this Saturday at 10am until 2pm. Coaches will work with the youth broken into different age groups, we will provide lunch, and there will be time for them to play basketball or whatever they want in the gym like the game day we had in March. All youth are welcome to come out even if you didn't sign up.
The TMBA Junior Missionary Bible Week Program will be Saturday, September 24th at 11am at Bethel Baptist Church. Choir rehearsals for the Youth Program will be on Saturday, Sept 3rd and 10th at 11am at the TMBA Building and on the 17th at 10am at Bethel. I have already notified Ms. Dawkins that we had the conflict on the 3rd and she was okay with that.
Since the Sept 10th choir rehearsal conflicts with our normally scheduled monthly Junior Missionary meeting we will cancel our meeting. We can meet briefly after the choir rehearsal at Bethel if needed.
This will be the year for electing officers for the TMBA Junior Missionaries. If any of our youth desires to run for an office they are asking that we submit a brief Bio for them by Saturday, September 3, 2016 during our scheduled choir rehearsal. The youth running for office should be in the 8th, 9th or 10th grade. Please let us know if you (or your child) is interested and if you need help writing the Bio for submission. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact any of the advisors or Ms. Angela Dawkins.
The advisors will meet soon to start planning out events for the upcoming year. If there is anything you would like to see the youth do in the upcoming year, please let any of the advisors know.
Have a great week. Hope to see you Saturday morning.
Holyland Trip News
Junior Missionary sponsored trip to
Daytona Beach, Florida and The Holy Land Experience, Orlando, Florida
Thursday, 4th – Saturday, 6th, 2016
Greetings!!!
The time is almost here for our trip to Daytona Beach and the Holy Land Experience! We are so
excited and ready for this trip and hope that you are too! In this letter, we hope to provide some
general information and timelines to help you adequately prepare for the trip. If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to call or text us at any time.
Departure
We will be leaving the Concord Baptist Church Front Parking Lot at 2:00 AM on Thursday,
August 4, 2016. (Yes, that is 2 AM Thursday morning or Wednesday night if you prefer to think of it
that way.) Please arrive no later than 1:30 AM to allow time for us to load everyone’s luggage and
prepare for the road so that we can leave on time.
We have total of 67 people going on this trip. There is one charter bus, one rental van, and some
families going by private vehicles. The charter service and travel arrangements are by ASAP
Tours/Diamond Diva Tours or some of you may better know them as George and Sabrina Halmon.
Travel on the charter bus has been reserved in the order in which you paid your deposit for the trip.
Everyone who signed up after the bus was full was notified at the time of your deposit. For you, we
have secured one of the newer Ford Transit Vans with Enterprise Car Rental and Jackie Bridges will
be your driver.
The same fun activities, games, and prizes will be available on both modes of transportation. We
have planned stops about every 2-3 hours or more frequently to allow everyone a chance to stretch
their legs, use restrooms, and pick up anything you want or need. On the way down, in addition to
rest stops, we will take breaks for an early breakfast at a Shoneys and Lunch at the Potters House
Soul Food Bistro in Jacksonville, Florida (http://www.thesoulfoodbistro.com). Other than the Chick-fila
lunch being provided on Friday at the Holy Land Experience, every individual will be responsible for
their own meals.
Luggage
When considering what to pack… August is normally very warm, with highs in the 90s and lows in the
70s, during this time of the year. Parents, please make sure our children pack appropriate clothing
and bathing suits. Remember, these types of trips show and teach our young people how we, as
Christians, can represent Christ and our church and still have lots of fun. You are welcome to bring a
small cooler that will be stored under the charter bus, but please do not bring extremely large coolers
as this will present a problem for storing luggage. All of the seats on the bus are taken, so space is
limited to the seat in front of you and the overhead compartment. The bus can be very cold at night,
so you may want to bring a light blanket or jacket for the trip.
Hilton Daytona Beach Resort
We should arrive at the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort (http://www.daytonahilton.com) in the middle of
the afternoon on Thursday. Smoking is NOT permitted inside this hotel. To keep things orderly, room
keys will be distributed on the bus/van and everyone will be free for the rest of the afternoon and
evening to explore the hotel and the many close surrounding beach activities. Upon arrival in your
room, you will be asked to do a quick inventory of the small appliances in the room (iron, hair dryer,
coffee pot). If you are missing anything, please let us know immediately so we can make the hotel
aware of it so you will not be held responsible for any missing items. If you would like to plan ahead,
there is a lot of information on the hotel website and the Visitor Bureau website at
http://www.daytonabeach.com. For the really adventurous, there is public transportation available and
information can be found at http://www.votran.org.
The Holy Land Experience
A final detailed agenda for the weekend will be provided at the beginning of the trip. At a high level,
everyone is asked to eat breakfast on your own early Friday morning. Please wear your t-shirt if you
purchased one. We will leave Daytona Beach at 7:30 AM in order to have adequate time for Orlando
morning traffic to arrive at the Holy Land Experience by 9:30 AM where our group leader will greet us.
Everyone will receive their entrance ticket and a refillable souvenir cup while we are still on the
bus/van/cars. Please hold on to your cup, as you will be able to get unlimited free drink refills all day
at the designated retail outlets inside the park. As mentioned previously, a Chick-fil-a lunch will be
provided at no additional cost around 1pm. There are other options available in the park for snacks
and meals, but would be at your own expense. All are encouraged to attend “The Passion of the
Christ Live Drama” at 4pm. We will exit the park and load up to leave after the conclusion of the play.
You may want to go to the website to plan ahead to identify what exhibits you would really like to see
as some say that you can not see everything in one day. http://www.holylandexperience.com
Special Note: Only small purses/bags are allowed into the park and are subject to search. The
following items are not permitted inside The Holy Land Experience: backpacks, luggage, coolers,
outside food or drinks, pets, children's wagons, bathing suits, costumes, alcohol, illegal drugs,
weapons, or other items that may be deemed inappropriate. There is also no smoking or vaping
inside the park. Wheelchairs and motorized scooters are not available in the park. If you think
you may need either a wheelchair or scooter, please let us know ASAP so we can help you make
arrangements in advance to rent one from a local medical supply store that can be delivered/picked
up directly to/from the hotel.
Friday evening, everyone will be on your own.
Departure
Saturday morning we will depart the hotel by 9:00 AM. We will make a stop at the beautiful Daytona
Beach Flea & Farmers Market (http://daytonafleamarket.com) for some final budget souvenir
shopping before heading home. Similar to the travel to Florida, we will make frequent stops on the
way home. We should arrive back at Concord late Saturday evening by 10pm.
All of this information and links will also be uploaded to the church website under Youth News. We will
keep it updated with any new or late breaking news. If you have any questions at all, please contact
Jackie Bridges (864-425-2033) or Kathy Littlejohn (864-491-7669).
July Events
Greetings everyone! Just a reminder that we will not have Junior Missionary meeting tomorrow morning, July 9th.
Ms. Kathy will be in touch with an update on the Back-to-School Clothing Drive for Limestone Court.
An announcement for the Junior Missionary trip to Gravitopia is coming. A sign-up list will be in the lobby on the table Sunday, for who all are interested in going. It will likely be in August or early September.
Just a reminder that the Regenesis Back-To-School even will be at Broad River Electric Coop on Saturday, July 30th. I'll post a link to the application for anyone desiring to volunteer to help at the event.
