Local living legend in Black History
In recognition of Black History Month, we had the honor of a visit and inspirational words by one of Gaffney’s own, Ms. Mary Lee Peeler.
Mary Lee Peeler has more than 30 years experience advocating for civil rights with the NAACP at the local, state, regional, and national levels. During this time, she has previously served as the National Membership Field Director, National Director of Branch and Field Services, and National Director of Voter Empowerment. In recognition of her service she has earned numerous honors during her career, including being the first recipient of the National NAACP Medgar W. Evers Award for Excellence, the highest honor bestowed upon a national professional staff member of the NAACP for outstanding service.
A public and motivational speaker, she serves as a keynote speaker and workshop presenter at various programs and events across the country.
Ms. Peeler is the owner of Uniquely U (a fashions, gifts, and accessories boutique) and operates Uniquely Silk Florist, both in downtown Gaffney.
A native of Gaffney, she is the daughter of the late Lemaster & Dorothy Peeler.
We salute Ms Peeler, a local legend in black history.
